In the fading winter of 1952, news of King George VI's death made Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor's ascension to the throne inevitable. As a young woman, still just a girl at the tender age of 25, neither Elizabeth nor her people could have ever imagined she might one day become the longest reigning monarch in British history, presiding over decades of swift change. Elizabeth's coronation came soon after the end of the Second World War, providing a sense of stability to the British people at a time when the nation was in shambles.

Does AUP Privilege the Most Privileged?

As a private university located in one of the world’s most expensive cities, an education at AUP can already be exclusive. When you factor in a status-obsessed student body and an unhelpful administration, living up to the expectations of an education at AUP can be an economic burden for some students.

The Time is Now for A/C at AUP

Students coming to AUP from the United States are often informed prior to their arrival to expect some culture shock and trouble adapting to a Parisian way of living. Most come expecting there to be a learning curve to living in a foreign country with different customs, mastering a new language, and, more generally, dealing with the notoriously rude Parisian populace. There is, however, a certain expected parity in the quality of life coming from the United States to France.

Cafe De Flore vs. Les Deux Magots

Paris is known for being home to hundreds of aesthetic cafes, each with a special take on the classic dishes. Out of all of these, the most well known of these being Cafe De Flore and Les Deux Magots which are neighbors on the bustling boulevard of Saint-Germain des Prés. The two have been rivals since the 1800s, and to this day they continue to draw in huge crowds of both tourists and celebrities alike.

Traveling Solo as a Black Woman

When I talk to my friends and family about my solo travel plans, it’s clear from their responses that the idea is still taboo. Because the truth is, as daunting as the idea of solo travel is on its own, being a black woman adds another layer of concerns to navigate.  Between living in Paris and traveling Europe alone for over a year now, I’ve gained a lot of perspective on what it means to travel as a black woman. Life and Luxury at La Galerie Dior
