Bloggers as the New Trusted Media

By

Who do you trust? In an age where consumers are becoming more conscious and demanding transparency and social responsibility in the brands they frequent, it's not easy to find media that we feel relates to us -- and more importantly, that we can trust.

Body Positive vs. Fat Shaming

By

The general consensus nowadays is that it's not acceptable to be racist. Similarly, while making jokes at the expense of a person with disabilities might draw some laughs in certain company, on the whole it's a no-no. But not so for fat shaming.

As more and more groups come forward and emphasize their humanity in the face of their oppression, there is one group that many continue not only to ridicule but to shamelessly attack: fat people.

Airbnb is the Uber of the Parisian Hotel Industry

By
I don’t know about you, but I am an avid user of Uber. Since 2013 I have used Uber 162 times. Uber is my preferred method of transportation outside of public transportation (most often used on nights out…but that’s another story).

I also danced kahiko (ancient) hula when I was very young.

American Viewpoint: French Attitudes About Immigration

By
I spent last weekend in a small suburb about an hour outside of Paris. I went to stay with my landlord and his wife at their country house in Houdain. Phillip and Sylvie were the most gracious hosts. We swam in their heated pool and went to a fair and in the evening Sylvie’s grown children joined us for dinner. Over a dinner of raclette, the conversation turned to politics and I gained a new perspective on the issues of Syrian immigration and headscarves in French schools.

Butting Out: A New €68 Fine in Paris for Tossing Cigarettes

By

Paris is a city of smokers. Almost all restaurants, brasseries, and cafes have outside seating with ashtrays for their smoking patrons. The tabac shops are usually open even when nothing else is. Even price hikes don't seem to stop Parisians from buying cigarettes.

This is all well and good -- until those cigarette butts start landing on the pavement. Total damage: 350 tons of cigarette butts a year.
