The Life of a Content Creator
Who is Sarah Lang?
If you’ve spent any time on TikTok’s For You page, chances are you have come across @thesaraheditt- or maybe you have even had the chance of catching a glimpse of her weaving in and out of the Parisian robust streets, while effortlessly looking glamorous and ready to conquer all with an iced coffee in her hand. With nearly 7,000+ followers, Sarah has made her mark on the internet by sharing sharp Paris recommendations, effortlessly chic outfits, and a brand of humor that is its own trademark of being undoubtedly witty, self-aware, and relatable.
At her core, Sarah is like many of us who have dreamt of living in Paris-- and then actually accomplishing it. Today, she is a 28-year-old San Franciscan-- a natural-born content creator-- who has taken a hop across the Atlantic and is making the Parisians hear her roar. This was able to be accomplished thanks to France’s “entrepreneur/profession libérale,” which allows foreigners to create their own business or work as a freelancer.
Her connection to France runs deeper than aesthetics. Growing up, she attended French schools in the United States, solidifying her love for the country and its language. After earning her Sociology degree, Sarah’s career trajectory hasn’t followed a traditional route: she has learned through internships, working as a freelancer, and saying ‘yes’ has allowed her to build her ideal portfolio piece by piece from one experience to another.
While her degree didn’t directly relate to marketing, she gained her experience in person through internships and early freelancing. She was someone who was eager to learn and took any opportunity she could. This work built her a portfolio that allowed her to work with all sorts of brands, from digital marketing to event planning and operations.
How Paris Has Shaped Her Content
Paris has become both a backdrop and an inspiration for her content. She focuses primarily on these three areas: secondhand fashion and personal style, life in Paris (recommendations and local experiences), and lifestyle content that documents her daily routine. Her social media reflects a blend of creativity, humor, and fashion.
Through her content, Sarah has not only documented her personal experiences but also expanded her professional network. Posting about her move helped her connect with others living or moving to Paris. On top of making friends, her content has also attracted clients, particularly brands from the United States looking to reach an audience abroad. It’s opportunities like this that were made possible by making the move to Paris.
The Method Behind the Madness
Despite the seemingly effortless TikTok videos that are produced and published on Sarah’s page, there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes. The way she is able to stay on top of her production is to maintain a system for content creation. She tracks ideas from conception to posting. She gains inspiration for her content from browsing social media, noting trends, or finding inspiration in hyper-niche topics. She organizes these ideas in a document, then moves each from brainstorming→ scripting→ filming→ editing→ published.
Her editing process is demanding: it is strenuous as it takes hours, patience, and the strength to be able to start again. When this occurs, she takes a step back from editing to allow for clarity. Through her videos, you will notice that each clip often shows multiple visual cues, text overlays, and rapid cuts to maintain viewer attention. Sarah uses her social media as both a creative outlet and for professional skill-building. It’s these videos that continue to build her portfolio as they are a lasting online memory of the work she puts into something she cares about.
Opportunities
“It’s a willingness to learn and put yourself out there, and being okay with failing or not having the specific outcome you want,” Lang stated.
Sarah’s social media presence has become a springboard for various professional opportunities. Many clients, particularly in France, discover her through her TikTok videos. She collaborates with brands on content creation, including user-generated content, editing, and talent sourcing. These projects allow her to generate income while honing her skills in digital marketing and brand management.
The biggest piece of advice Sarah had for those wanting to start creating content is to simply post. Posting consistently helped her in her professional and personal life, from brand partnerships to friends who share equal interests and lifestyles.
Sarah advises aspiring creators to focus on consistency over perfection. Her path demonstrates that dedication, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and fail are essential to building a meaningful presence online and in business. Her biggest fear was not finding clients in France, but over a year later, this fear has been put to rest. A year ago, her French was a B2. Now it’s a high C1 as she has learned to speak French in more than a conversational manner, but also in a business manner. In her words, “starting is the most important step, and everything else, from growth to opportunity, follows.” She is someone who has taken her dream and turned it into reality.
