The SGA Beat - 11 March 2026
SGA held its first meeting after spring break this Wednesday from 12:10 to 1:30 PM. The session opened with announcements and continued discussion about the SGA budget. One of the first decisions focused on reallocating funds. The Senate voted to move 3,459.72 euros from the clubs budget to the social budget in order to clear the social budget from debt. Senators explained that this move was intended to stabilize the balance of funds before additional spending continues during the semester.
Several club budgets that had been tabled before spring break returned for review.
AUP Dance Club’s request had previously been delayed because it exceeded the threshold that requires additional review of 1,500 euros. During the discussion, senators focused on how the requested funds would be divided between the club’s planned dance activities and the equipment needed for rehearsals and events. After reviewing the proposal, the Senate approved the budget at 2,960 euros.
Roaches also returned after their request had been tabled earlier in the semester. Senators revisited the proposal and discussed the scale of the planned activities compared with the amount requested. During this review, the proposed amount was reduced and the final approved budget was 1,576 euros.
Dépaysants Magazine’s budget had also been tabled before the break. Senators revisited the request and discussed how the funds would support the magazine’s production and activities during the semester. After discussion, the budget was approved at 1,801 euros, including funding connected to the magazine’s launch event.
Peacock’s previously tabled request also returned to the agenda. The Senate revisited the proposal and ultimately approved the proposed budget of 3,900 euros to support the club’s programming during the semester.
The Billiards Club was approved for 686 euros according to the ACC minutes. The funding includes support related to the club’s billiards table used during meetings. AUP Futsal received approval for 1,430 euros, including support connected to a football game the team plans to attend together. AUP Green was approved for 1,391 euros according to the ACC minutes. The funding will support the club’s meetings, events and guest speakers during the semester.
One request did not receive a final decision. Oui the People proposed a budget for a French immersion trip to Colmar. The trip is intended for club members whose French level is above B1 and is designed to give students an opportunity to practice French in a cultural setting outside of Paris. The proposal was tabled because the requested amount was above 1,500 euros.
With several previously delayed budgets finally decided and new initiatives still under review, the meeting reflected a moment of transition for the Senate as it moves deeper into the semester. Future meetings will continue reviewing larger proposals and funding decisions that will shape upcoming club events and activities.
