Get involved with the local community to raise awareness and funds for Madagascar schools.

It’s time to lace up those running shoes for the sixth edition of the American University of Paris' 7k Run in the 7th in support of Association Jeunes Malgaches et Jeunes Toutes Origines (AJMJTO) on April 9. The run, part of SGA Charity Week, will begin at Passage Landrieu building 10 AM sharp, going through the Champ de Mars and finishing at the Stade Emile Antoine.

AJMJTO provides for school children in Madagascar by building schools and raising the necessary funds for them to maintain running water and electricity. The project called "A School for Children Ilampy" was launched in 2007 and now has 150 students and four classes, ranging from kindergarten to primary school. In the summer of 2013, two separate buildings were built and house two classrooms each, a home for the director, a pre-school and a sewing workshop. In 2014, a library, kitchen and cafeteria were added.

In 2015, housing was created for the two teachers as well as a new medical center. With the help of donations, the Ilampy school has developed autonomous water and electricity sources. They have also been able to start a vegetable garden to feed the children. Their next goal is to have the kitchen continually stocked with fresh vegetables and other food, as most children arrive to school in the morning without having eaten anything.

To participate in the run, you must register online through AUP and pay a €10 subscription fee, to be donated to AJMJTO. To register you will need a medical certificate or a copy of a currently valid university league license. These licenses must be handed in to the organizers of the event when receiving your squad number at 9 am the morning of the race. The certificates will be held by the organizers until the end of the race. This run is a fun way to get involved with the local community and raise awareness as well as funds for a good cause.

This event is open to the public with only 300 places available, so sign up today!
