If you think neutral colors are depressing, than Paris is probably not the right city for you.

You have to be chic if you want to fit in the capital of fashion. If you don’t want to be treated like a tourist, then make sure you do not commit any fashion Faux Pas.

Here are 5 golden rules you must follow if you want to look like a typical Parisian.

Rule #1 : Black is your new bestfriend

Paris is known as the capital of fashion, especially if fashion is defined by wearing black. Parisians love to wear black; black pants, black shoes, black shirts, black coats, you name it.

Parisian women especially love black clothes. It is well known that “Le noir fait maigrir”.

Generally, people who dress up colourfully do not really fit in the capital of fashion. Parisians wear very neutral colours, which might seem depressing to a lot of people. Blue, especially navy blue, is acceptable since it can easily be mistaken for black.

Rule #2: Show Your Skin In Unpredicted Ways

Showing cleavage and too much leg? Très Boring. French girls prefer less expected ways of revealing skin, like showing off the shoulders or a bare back.

Rule #3:  No major logos or brand displaying is allowed

Interestingly, even though Louis Vuitton is a French brand, you will very rarely see Parisian women carrying  bags covered in their excessive logos.Perhaps it is because  barnds like Louis Vuitton  tend to be covered in flamboyant brand  logos  that French women avoid because they don’t need to show off  or tell the world that they have wealth. Parisians tend to carry bags with small, or no logos instead. They are very discrete in that sense.

Rule # 4: Parisians wear clothes that fit well

Very tight dresses? Very short, super tight shirts? Yeah. No.

Parisian women don’t usually wear this kind of clothing. If they wear sexy clothes it is a well-fitted dress that reveals one of their great asset (legs, bum, cleavage), but never all three at once, and that is the secret ! They also never feel uncomfortable in what they wear , simply because they don’t wear uncomfortable things.

Rule #5: Never wear too much makeup

The idea of dressing up a little does not include makeup, because many French women do not wear a lot of makeup, if any at all.You will occasionally see French women wear a little makeup, like lipstick and mascara, but they do not try and cover up their skin to make it look perfect. If they have imperfections, they have imperfections.  They are not going to try and cover up everything to the point where it looks unnatural.

Ever heard the French expression Bon Chic Bon Genre? It basically means good class, good taste. So if you want to look classy in the eyes of the Parisian population make sure you follow these rules.
