Instagram fashion amidst a pandemic.

In the midst of a global pandemic, following Milan and Paris fashion week, fashion is still finding its place. With hubs of the fashion industry like China, Italy and France all in or having gone through severe stages of this crisis, the fashion world has been turned on its head. Factories in China have shut down and influencers are finding themselves on a fine line between acknowledging the crisis and maintaining their incomes through ads on their social media. As a response, fashion influencers are taking to Instagram to share their looks against a more personal backdrop- within their homes.

Many prominent social media users have voiced their concerns on social media platforms, urging their followers to stay home. Instagram now has a Stay Home story, and France uses the hashtag, #RestezChezVous. With this global push, influencers have been sharing cooking tips and providing a much more intimate glimpse into their home life in light of the pandemic.

Various hashtags have circulated promoting dressing up to go nowhere in the wake of shelter in place orders across the world. The movement aims to help people to share their looks and ultimately retain a sense of normalcy through dressing up and taking a snap of an outfit.

In a recent post, a popular Parisian vintage account @imparfaiteparis posted an image accompanied by the hashtag #GETDRESSEDFORYOURSELF.

Similarly, Man Repeller founder Leandra Medine Cohen @leandramcohen posted a photo of herself dressed up with no shoes, foot on the sink and the hashtag #goingnowherebutfuckitimgettingdressed  which was reposted on her official @manrepeller account, inviting followers to share themselves dressed up to go nowhere.

Following suit, Jenny Walton, Reese Blutstein, Alyssa Coscarelli , Sabina Socol and Courtney Trop have shared their quarantine fashion moments.

There is joy in feeling good and sometimes, even in the chaos of coronavirus, it just takes a good outfit. Chiara Ferragni is an Italian influencer who’s been at the forefront raising money to help with the virus outbreak support in Italy, raising nearly 4 million euros for COVID-19 intensive care units.

This confusing time in the world has sparked a new variety of content and has been a learning curve for many in the fashion community, especially on Instagram. Influencers are now pivoting to sharing their favorite recipes, workouts, and personal anecdotes on how to fight boredom during confinement. Aimee Song has been posting her food and favorite recipes, dressed to impress and serving up insta-worthy snacks.

Everyone is reacting to this new reality in a different way and sometimes getting dressed to go nowhere is just what we need to do.
