Have Your Own 'Midnight in Paris' Moments in Underground Poetry Communities.

It's pretty enchanting to live in Paris, but as an Anglophone it may be difficult to immerse yourself in all the magic the city has to offer. As a student you may wonder how to get involved outside of school, in the city, amongst the locals, whilst immersing in the creative air of Paris. If this sounds like you, I advise you to take a stroll into one of the reading and writing communities that house a very tight-knit, yet inviting group of intellectuals from all over the world. The best way to do that is through one of the handful of underground poetry groups in Paris.

Paris Lit Up is a firey community that holds open mics every Thursday, starting at 8 p.m. and ending whenever! The theme here is to be as yourself as possible and perform until you drop.

SpokenWord Paris  is a writing, reading, singing, acting community for the lost and for the curious. This is a place for all that want to explore Paris in a creative way, to meet people whom you can learn from and teach to, and it doesn't hurt that the readings are held in the basements of bars or above the famous Shakespeare & Co. overlooking Notre Dame.

SpokenWord Paris includes three creative sisters: SpokenWord, Open Secret, and The Other Writers' Group. SpokenWord and Open Secret are open mic settings, casual and fun every Monday and Wednesday. If you are a writer or performer, sign up and share your work with the group! If you are more the curious, appreciating type, grab a beer, find new friends, and sit and listen!

The Other Writers' Group takes place above Shakespeare & Co. and is for those who are more serious about workshopping their writing. This happens every Sunday for a fee of 6 euro. Very well worth it for those who want real experience in workshopping in one of the most sacred literary spots in Paris.

Choose one, or better yet, visit all of them. You won't be dissapointed.
