Go to the Hair Salon Without Breaking the Bank
Finding a hair salon that's not exorbitantly expensive is a difficult task in Paris. Many English-language guides to salons will reference more expensive places that speak English, but we've put together a handy guide to help you through the experience in a French salon.
Salon prices for things like a cut or color don't usually include a shampoo and blow-dry unless specifically mentioned. Keep this in mind when looking at prices, while a cut can look really cheap, the actual cost can be upwards of 80€. Any treatments or soins will cost extra as well. Bringing a photo of what you would like is a good idea to help bridge the language barrier as well.
Check out sites like Balinea or ZenSoon to see what deals salons are offering. Be aware that some of the salons might not be very good, so your best option is to look at salons with good reviews. Even better, most of the salons on these sites offer an online booking option, meaning you never have to test your French skills over the phone. Services are purchased in advance and your appointment is booked. You show up to the salon on the day of your appointment, let them know you have a rendez-vous and you're all set!
There are also a few hairdressing schools scattered around the city, but they usually don't offer hair color or other services without a cut. Frequently they require that you be willing to cut a minimum of 3-5cm off of your hair as well, though this is not always the case. They are great if you are on a really tight budget and looking for a dramatic change.
