Migration is a part of human history. People chose to migrate, looking for better opportunities, while others are forced into exile. The latter are called 'refugees', 'asylum seekers' to a point where the human being disappears behind these labels. In Afghanistan, the presence of the Taliban and the insecurity around the country have resulted in the greatest number of refugees and asylum seekers in recent years, following after Syrians and Venezuelans. Afghanistan is reduced to headlines in the West about war, terrorism and violation of human rights.

In this podcast, I go behind these headlines in an interview with Farishta Afzaly, who joined me to share her experience as a woman in Afghanistan. She was forced to leave the country as a child, and later returned to live with the presence of the Taliban while working at the American University Of Afghanistan in Kabul.
