Why you should stay in smalltown Normandy after the American Film Festival has ended.

As the American Film Festival of 2016 comes to an end in Deauville there are still reasons to stay even after the stars have gone home. Deauville is home to the best of French food, stunning beach fronts, boutiques, and entertainment for all.

As France has always been set in their food-related traditions, Deauville is a great place to discover traditional French cuisine. A popular destination for locals and tourists alike is Breton Traituer. Situated at Place Morny, the large windows provide a glimpse of salmon and tuna dishes, fois gras, and bottles of their house Champagne. Seafood is the most popular dish – you can find oyster bars in every direction. In the evening, rest at Cafe de Paris with a glass of wine overlooking Place Morny and take in the calm sound of the seagulls.

Plage de Deauville, the beach along the shoreline of the English Channel, is where you will find locals riding horses along the beach front and is also a beautiful place for those who enjoy sports as well as relaxing. Along the beach, visitors can find cafés, small local shops, and of course ice cream. For the sporty vacationers it is a great place to rent a bike and take a ride at sunrise or sunset. The iconic tied-up beach umbrellas add stripes of red, blue, green, and orange to the miles of beach. The boardwalk offers photo opportunities with names of famous stars painted along the beach hut entrances.

Boutique after boutique line the cobblestone streets and attract the eyes of men and women. Shops like Longchamps, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, and Zadig and Voltaire house their brands in Norman-style buildings with boutique entrances. It is a unique atmosphere, unlike the hustle and bustle of Parisian shopping, and quite appealing to sellers and consumers alike. The shops are all in close quarters which makes it simple to shop until you drop.

There is also a wide variety of entertainment to choose from. The Casino Barrière Deauville offers opportunities to place bets on one of their 35 tables or to take your chances on one of their 300 machines. The casino also has a list of scheduled events such as comedies, themed dinners, and the occasional small concert. The next event at Casino Barrière Deauville is Sarah Doraghi in concert on September 30. For lovers of all things cinema there is a quaint movie theater named Cinema Morny which houses five theater rooms. Projections of movies depend on the time of day and will be in either English or French.

The nightlife also does not disappoint. For such a small city there are plenty of bars and a few clubs to check out. Point Bar is a club located in the city center with local and visiting DJ's playing on the weekends, making the nights seem never ending. Les Sevens Club is known for its cocktail atmosphere where you can sit with friends and listen to great music sharing drinks unique to the club.
