Are You Privileged Or Not?

Join AUP's Privilege Walk and find out what it means to get #woke.

In an effort to promote being #woke, AUP's Woke Week Committee invites you to join their Privilege Walk on February 9th, 2017 at the Combes building. According to Urban Dictionary, "woke" means "being aware," or "knowing what's going on in the community." The essence of Woke Week and the Privilege Walk is not to make known the privileges we have, but make you aware of how they impact our lives. Little do we think about the societal privileges we have; the Privilege Walk is there to get us "woke" and see just how much privilege affects us and our peers. If you don't know what a privilege walk is, take a look at this example.

After the walk, join your fellow students in hearing some personal narratives about privilege from the Comparative Literature department. In preparation for Woke Week, the committee has also created a Woke Week Tumblr page where several narratives about privilege and why it is important to be aware have been posted; be sure to check that out as well. Following the readings; a discussion will be held and pizza will be served -- I repeat, PIZZA. So AUP, get ready to be #woke.
