How to Stay Warm Without Wearing Uggs
As temperatures drop in one of the world’s most stylish cities, newcomers to Paris can feel slightly overwhelmed in navigating the path between not dying of frostbite and not looking dishevelled. With only a few essential items, we can brave the winter months without needing to wear Uggs or ski-jackets (unless that’s a look you’re going for, in which case, more power to you.) The coat is the ultimate winter staple, a
nd the place to find quality ones for decent prices is UNIQLO. Oftentimes, they reference high-end brands like A.P.C. and Acne Studios with their simple designs. UNIQLO stocks coats ranging from basic wool in traditional cuts to duffle coats and even military coats for both men and women, usually coming in at under 100 euros.

Once the essentials are in place, you can focus on accessories. COS is a smart choice as they carry every type of winter add-on: scarves and beanies in muted colors, as well as gloves and mittens in a range of fabrics from cashmere to leather. And you can even pick up free issues of their beautiful lookbooks when you purchase something in one of their stores.

For the finishing touches, grab a few new things to make your flat so cozy you won’t feel guilty spending all day in bed, buried under the covers with the heater on full blast. For candles and mugs, the japanese store Muji is a sure bet.

For mood lighting to set just the right ambiance while you read Proust (or browse through Netflix while pretending to read Proust), IKEA is an oldie-but-goodie. And then, for some zen tunes, visit Colette to pick up a Beach House or Françoise Hardy vinyl.
