Frichti Delivers It Fresh

Where homemade isn't taken for granted.

As a student, it can be difficult to find tasty, healthy food options with a limited monthly budget. It only gets worse if you have a habit of splurging. Luckily,  I was able to come across Frichti, an online food delivery service that offers fresh homemade meals at low prices (including the delivery). They make the meals and the menu every morning. Frichti offers various options, ranging from entrées to apéro and bottled alcohol. Most of the entrées cost around 3€ while the plates are a bit higher at around 7€.  Delivery is available for both lunch (11-2pm) and dinner (7-10pm).

In my opinion, Paris isn't the best places to have food delivered since it usually takes 40 minutes or more. I was able to get my Frichti meals in 30 minutes after giving them a set time for delivery and paying a delivery cost of 1.50€ (if I wanted express it would have been 2,90€). Another nice thing about the delivery time feature is that you can pick your food in the morning and strategically plan so your food arrives just when you get home for dinner (double score). In addition, they text you ten and one minute before their arrival so you have enough time to go downstairs to pickup your food. Yes, that might be annoying, but it's probably for security reasons. There's no need for them to know your door code.

Since it was my first time, I wanted to try both their hot and cold meals to see how they stayed during transport. I chose a mushroom soup that had a touch of truffle oil, because you can't go wrong with truffles. Unfortunately, it did arrive cold, so I had to heat it back up in a pot (I'm one of the few who doesn't have a microwave). Once hot it was delicious, but I wish I could taste the truffle a bit more.

I then tried their mini curry chicken club sandwiches, which were also very good. There was a nice balance between the curry and a bit of dried apricots; the sweet and the sour. The bread wasn't greasy from having to toast it with sunflower oil, but it did appear a little stale.

Lastly, I wanted to try their rainbow salad, which is made from shredded carrots, oranges, grilled chickpeas with cumin and olive oil, avocado, olive oil, lemon juice, coriander, and pistachio. This one was my favorite. The combination was great and the citrus from the lemon enhanced the green sauce and the vegetables as a whole. It's a vegan's dream.

I would recommend having the food delivered at lunch time because it will taste fresher and the sitting time is cut in half. Their strong suit is dealing with food that should be served cold. Their hot options will most likely need to be reheated once they arrive to you.

Frichti was kind enough to offer a -15% discount promo code for anyone who wants to try it for themselves. Just enter: FRICHTI<3UNIVERSITEAMERICAINE and you're good to go! It expires on March 1, 2016.

All in all, Frichti was 4 out of 5 stars.
