Paris Fashion Week: Who to Know
The phrase "Paris Fashion Week" never fails to excite the masses. With each new season, designers wow audiences with their breathtaking collections and vision for the future of fashion. To most, the name Haider Ackermann does not mean much, but to fashion insiders around the world, he is one of the most revolutionary designers of our time.
Haider Ackermann is the Colombian-born and Germany raised creative director of Berluti. Ackermann studied at the prestigious Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp before embarking on a five-month internship at the well established John Galliano in 1998. At 46, Ackermann has made quite the name for himself. He is said to be one of Karl Lagerfeld's favorite designers—and his choice of successor—and was praised by International Vogue Editor, Suzy Menkes, saying Ackermann was a "rare hope-for-the-future." Ackermann's unique aesthetic can be classified as deconstructed modernity, with masterfully cut designs and artful silhouettes.

Ackermann made his first debut at Paris Fashion Week in 2001 where he presented a women's wear collection. In 2002, Ackermann then officially launched his eponymous label. In the years to follow, in September of 2016, Berluti announced him as their new creative director. Ackermann's first show with the brand was presented at the Autumn/Winter 2017 men’s fashion week in Paris in January. Since his success, he has been heavily compared to the groundbreaking Yves Saint Laurent.

Among his meteoric rise, Ackermann has received well-deserved critical acclaim. He was awarded a Swiss Textile Award and a Fashion Group International award for his unforgettable designs. The gifted designer has been presented with many opportunities to work for some of fashion's most recognizable labels, such as Dior and Maison Margiela, however he turned those down before landing as creative director for Berluti.
