Anyone can help Mexico recover, regardless of location.

On September 19, 2017, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake left Mexico City with at least 216 casualties amidst a city in rubble, 32 years to the day after a similar tragedy in the same location. Although times seem hopeless and dark, Mexicans have come together. Civilians and rescuers are working in order to search the city for survivors. Motorcyclists have been transporting paramedics all over the city and people have opened their homes to those who have been displaced. For anyone far from Mexico, it is inevitable to feel impotent. However, there is a way to help from afar: Mexico is in need of donations to help recover from this terrible event.

Los Topos

"Thank you for helping with our work."

Los Topos (The Moles) is a professional non-profit Mexican rescue team, formed after the impact of the earthquake in 1985. They specialize in searching for victims through the debris while risking their own lives. They accept donations through Paypal at the address donativos@brigada-rescate-topos.org.

UNICEF

UNICEF has been raising funds in order to provide relief for some of the primary schools that have collapsed in the center of the city, such as Enrique Rebsamen Primary School, in which 22 children have lost their lives and others are still missing. Emergency services have been working tirelessly from dawn to dusk to help the children, with UNICEF providing financial aid to these services.

Mexican Red Cross

The Mexican Red Cross members are some of the first responders in tragedies like this. Their paramedics have been working non-stop in order to provide help and relief to the highest number of affected people, as well as coordinating volunteers to create centers of aid in their houses or on their side of the road, but resources are running low and they are in dire need of aid in order to be able to have more access to necessary medical supplies.

The Amazon Wishlist

Amazon coordinated with the Mexican Red Cross to create a wishlist in order to facilitate the delivery of necessary products to shelters in the city.

Carlos Slim Foundation

This foundation is accepting donations, with instructions on their website. Additionally, Foundation Telmex-Telcel will donate five pesos for every peso donated to Carlos Slim.

Finally, Project Paz, in coordination with the El Paso Community Foundation, is accepting donations for the victims.

Please help Mexico recover from this tragedy. From Mexicans, members of the AUP community and students of the world, we are asking for your help and your solidarity during these very difficult times. Thank you!
