See How the Viral App is Inspiring People to Travel

If you haven’t already heard about Tik Tok, then you must be living under a rock. Especially during this boring time under quarantine, millions of people have dedicated their time scrolling endlessly through this addicting app called Tik Tok.

What is Tik Tok?

Founded by a Beijing-based company in 2012, the app was released to the IOS and Android market outside of China in 2017. The app quickly gained popularity worldwide and by 2019, was the most downloaded app on the Apple App Store. Tik Tok remained number one for eight consecutive quarters, and only recently dropped down to number 3. Apps like Zoom and Google Hangouts took those top two spots as every educational institute has had to move completely online.

The reason why its users seem to be able to spend hours on end scrolling through the never-ending feed, better known as the ForYou page,  is because of how much variety the app's videos offer. From dances, to challenges, to acting skits, the options of 15-60 second videos are endless. It is a platform that allows its users to get creative and the everyone seems to have turned to Tik Tok due to, what feels like, the whole world being stuck quarantined in their houses.

Travel Accounts on Tik Tok

A popular category of videos on Tik Tok are travel accounts. With hours spent on this beloved app, these travel videos have been gaining significant recognition on plenty of users' ForYou page.

Jon Miksis and Lindsay Paige Stein, who run their own TikTok travel accounts, were able to share the way this app has impacted their social media. As they both have been in the travel industry for a few years now, they have dedicated their lives to traveling the world while being able to work from their laptops. Now, I’m sure that’s a life most of us would not mind living!

Essentially, what these accounts do is post cool looking scenic clips of places they have traveled to and are recommending to others. They are travel bloggers that post bucket list experiences, travel tips, and travel facts all within a quick less than 60-second video clip.

“Short-form videos are a great way to inspire adventure and provide fun and informative content” -Jon Miksis.

With the app, these travel bloggers have been able to increase their following not only on Tik Tok but their other media platforms as well. Miksis explained how “the viral nature of the app and its seamless integration with other platforms is very helpful to growing on other channels” Being able to link your Instagram account and any other platform to your bio makes it easy for viewers to be able to click and discover more of the creator's content.

If anyone has ever been on the app, it's clear how much more lighthearted it is compared to other social media platforms. Stein even expressed how she “fell in love with the app because it’s different from Instagram. It’s not as filtered and curated…”. Tik Tok is a space where its users feel comfortable sharing the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between.

Adapting to Quarantine

As we all know, being in quarantine has not allowed anyone to do much traveling outside of their daily kitchen runs, so you might be wondering, how do these Tik Tok travel content creators keep their accounts active? Well, with all this time on their hands, Jon has been “creating a lot of travel throwback videos so we can all dream of places we want to visit once this is all over” whereas Lindsay has also been “sharing tips on jobs that allow you to travel the world, how I became a freelance travel writer, and fun things like ‘travel destinations based on your zodiac sign’”.

So, once this quarantine is over, and the world gets back to its normal routines (which hopefully includes some traveling), consider using Tik Tok to inspire you for your upcoming trips.
