The New Runway

By Giorgia Ascolani
As Fashion Month comes to an end, we look back on the most memorable street outfits spotted in Paris.

Fashion Month has sadly come to a close. The sound of stilettos clipping down Rue de Rivoli continue to fade yet the photographs remain, reminding us of the fashion extravaganza that transfixes Paris during Fashion Week.

Whilst it may be true that Fashion Week is centered around the designer showcases and presentations, it could be argued that the real show happens on the streets. Street style has become an industry in itself, with photographers falling over themselves to snap stars of the ‘Rue’ as they stomp, strut and dance their way to the next stop on their agenda.

The runways are now dictated by numerous forces all struggling for creative direction; from the influence of the economy and current politics, to creative differences between designers and business partners. It is safe to say that the freedom once experienced, has disintegrated into creating collections which please ‘the suits’. Street style, on the other hand, relies purely on creativity. The most photographed and successful outfits are unique and are created by pulling together garments from a number of sources: an amalgamation of designer, vintage and high street.

So, as we mourn the end of arguably the most exciting period in a fashion insiders diary, I created a video to remind us of the best looks pulled together from the street that becomes the runway during Fashion Week.
