Some trends simply go too far

Dear 2016,

You presented us with a maelstrom of frightening fashion and makeup trends. 394,404 ways to fleek-a-fy your eyebrows? Okay. 876,049,303 contour videos on Instagram? Fine. The return of acid washed jeans? Really – ugh – whatever. These things I can forgive. But there are some things I cannot. Take these nail trends, for example:

FURRY NAILS

Even furry animals don’t have furry nails. Also: hygiene. Stop.

SCORPION NAILS

Kinda cool, but also kind of really extremely horrifying. No bueno.

Scorpion nails are the latest nail trend hitting Mexico

MOUNTAIN

Why are you doing this to me? What started as a fun video from inspired nail art vlogger Simply Nailogical actually turned into a bona fide, ridiculous trend. On average, the look takes 12 hours. It can also be extremely harmful to your nail beds.

POM POMS

Not going to lie, these are actually pretty cute because they remind me of arts and crafts time as a kid. BUT. They are totally impractical and I can only image how gross they get after a few hours. How do you wash your hands? I guess you just don’t? Please, no.

I would love to see these people try to text.

Stiletto Nails

I feel like one could commit murder with nails like these.

Fashion often illuminates the overall aura of a culture. It makes total sense that these bizarre trends took place in the turbulent and tumultuous year that has been 2016. Hopefully, 2017 will bring with it a calmer political climate and a more chic array of nail trends. Hopefully.
