The nuances of beauty explored through the eyes of AUP students.

Another Peacock Magazine is getting added to the collection. Winter 2017/18, the Beauty issue, is launching this upcoming Friday. Peacock Magazine is an integral part of AUP Student Media (ASM), in addition to The Plume and Peacock Play. The three student-run media outlets make up the epicenter of AUP’s multicultural urban campus, as they're dedicated to producing high-quality content while connecting students, academic departments, alumni, and the world.

Friday, December 1 from 7 PM - 9:30 PM in the Amex café at 6 rue du Colonel Combes, the ASM board invites you to attend the launch party of Peacock Magazine issue 14. There will be free drinks all evening (as long as the supplies last). The dress code is semi-formal, or as Lillian Wagner, the Marketing Director of the magazine, says, "Show up looking different from what you wear to class." Outside guests are welcome, in fact, it is favorable, as Wagner mentions, "Bringing outside guests is great exposure for Peacock Magazine, and it creates a more unified student media."

Stuart Edwards, the Editor-in-Chief of this issue of Peacock Magazine, notes, "I am very excited about all of the content in the magazine this season, and I honestly wouldn't be able to pick a favorite article. We had a good team this semester, almost everyone in the class was super participatory, and I also had a great executive team working with me. We’ve had some problems in the past, but we didn't experience any of these this semester."

The magazine handles different angles of beauty, and therefore, not only the shallow, superficial idea we're accustomed to, as Edwards says, "This semester I was trying hard to focus on the idea of beauty but not necessarily the typical concept of beauty in regards to what’s on the surface. I wanted to offer analysis on the different nuances of beauty, the beauty and the ugly or the ugly and the beauty."

Keep in mind that if you are a journalism major, or thinking of choosing journalism as your major, The Magazine ASM workshop might be the perfect opportunity for you. Seeing as all journalism majors/minors are required to take one of the workshops, the launch party on Friday could be an opportunity to see what ASM produces, and also, meet the people who might become your future colleagues or professors.

Come on Friday to learn about all the different aspects of beauty, and of course, meet the hardworking editors and writers while enjoying a drink. "I am so excited for everyone to see the magazine that we’ve created. I can't thank everyone that I’ve worked with enough: I had a great Deputy Editor, Hedvig Werner, a great Art Director, Sabrina Scholkowski, and a great Photo Director, Jackie Wegwerth. I really can’t thank them enough for helping me bring this product to completion," Edwards says excitedly.
